THE ARTISTS

Antonietta Merendino was born in Sicily, near SEGESTA and SELINUNTE , in the little historical  town,   of Salemi. 
        She has never attended academies, never studied painting in the official schools. 
        Completely free of academic internship, she began to paint as a child, followed and encouraged by a mother artist too, a pianist,  following the instinct, the impulse and continuing, then as an adult, in full and ever greater freedom of intention and technique, substantially actress of  herself and demonstrating possess, beyond the  congenial qualities, substantial own resources.
       At sixteen, she exhibited her works in  her  first  solo exhibition , organized for her in one of the halls, full of charm and history, of the Arab-Norman castle, in Salemi. 
       She continues to paint and at the end of the 90s  she  attended workshops, under the guidance of a good Venetian masters of painting, Umberto Menin and, in particular Alberto Bolzonella ,she  learns and makes new pictorial techniques.
       Starting from an in-depth study of the great masters of the turn of the century, she matures over time an identity of her own.
        With obstinacy and commitment, Antonietta Merendino pursued the dream of expressing herself through painting, which constitutes a fundamental and engaging chapter of her biography, to the point of changing, at a certain point  of her life she  was working , studying, and she  got married. 
        She has fierceness and modesty, she was  learning a lot  by herself, without ever being satisfied, never giving in to fatigue: "Art is a difficult thing, and the conquest of a language that responds to one's own impulses and needs, is a 'difficult undertaking',  she usually says  
       What matters, for her, is the translation of emotion and sensory participation into a gesture, a color trend that has the same frequency and the same elasticity of the intimate performance.
It is a kind of  painting  with a strong gesture, with a sound print, with colors that arrive immediately and intrusively. 
     It feels a passion, a need to express herself, a magma that tries to come out with instinctive signs that sensitivity tends to dominate in order to make them fall into pictorial dimension.
     In her canvases lights, colors, voices, iridescent smells in the hours of the day, in the days of the seasons.
     She has participated in important competitions, obtaining acclaimes  by the public and critics.
     Recently one of her works has been exhibited  pin the private residence of the Royals of Holland, in Amsterdam.
